While not a far journey from neighboring Grindelwald, getting to the Schilthorn took three trains and three gondolas to reach. Once in Mürren you get to experience the Lauterbrunnen Valley and just how high and steep these mountainsides are by seeing both the lush valley and the snow capped peaks. After a short walk around Mürren we ride the first gondola up 3,280 feet (in less than 20 minutes) to Birg. While waiting for the next gondola to the top, we venture out onto the glass platform and walk along the cliff walls seeing all 8,783 feet below us.
The second gondola takes us to the Schilthorn and the Piz Gloria which is actually a circular rotating restaurant. This facility was the filming location for the James Bond movie 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' and was converted into a restaurant. Below the restaurant is Bond World, an interactive exhibit for the movie. Outside on the terrace, after passing through the 007 Walk of Fame, we get to experience the 360 degree view of over 200 mountain peaks.
