Starting out at the train station in Montreux, we board the cog wheel train for a slow and steady one hour sweep through the mountains, up 1,600 meters to Rochers de Naye. Once we arrived, we were hit with wind and spectacular panorama views of Lake Geneva, and the Swiss and French Alps. The observation point on the summit brings us up to 2,042 meters/6,699 feet. For perspective, the snow covered Swiss Alps in the distance include the Eiger in the Jungfrau region where we visited later in our trip.
Many outdoor activities are offered here but require at least 3 hours (taking into account the 1 hour up and 1 hour down) and we had not planned enough time to really venture out on a hike before the scheduled last train. During the summer months you can wander through the Alpine Garden and see Bell Flowers and Edelweiss. This area was closed off for us and we only were able to see the garden's sign. Also semi-closed was the Marmot Paradise which hosts different kinds of mountain marmots. We did get a peak at one, but spent more time engaging with the goats.
